Athena Tutoring Services offers an exclusively online service using Zoom and Microsoft Teams as its key platforms. By working online via Zoom or Teams, students can access their sessions from literally anywhere on all manner and means of devices, at a time that is convenient for all parties.

The Zoom professional app is presented free of charge to you, and like its Teams counterpart, offers countless and unprecedented opportunities for collaborative learning through screen sharing, real-time student input / tutor modelled workings, together with ongoing feedback and discussion to best secure knowledge, skills, understanding and progress.

All that is required from the client is a reliable internet connection and ideally a PC or laptop, or (with less impact) an iPad or iPhone. These platforms and approaches ensure maximum engagement, promote immediate detection of any misconceptions preventing learning, and totally support opportunities to accelerate forwards. Also, you will need an active email address and account.

Above all, we specialise in devising and delivering tailored programmes for Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, together with 11+ English, Maths, Verbal and Non-verbal skills. We cater for pupils of all needs, dispositions, confidence levels and abilities.

    In large, busy mainstream classes, the needs of those in the middle can all too often become overridden by the extremes of the least and most able. As pupils transfer to secondary, any gaps in learning from KS2 can hinder successful, confident, and motivated transitions – particularly in English and Maths. Our bespoke Maths and English tutoring actively address such needs and fast-tracks both learning and motivation at Key Stage 2 and 3.

    Our tutoring proactively encompasses students with both diagnosed and Special Educational Needs. Resources and approaches are selected and designed that best address specific learning difficulties whilst also identifying and developing underpinning strengths, knowledge, and skills.

The Working Process

    Initial test emailed for completion.

Once you make contact and share needs/aspirations, an initial diagnostic “test” will be emailed to you for completion and return by email or photograph (WhatsApp). Please let the student complete this truly independently. Detailed feedback will then be given as a starting point and to identify next step progressions.

From here, a detailed learning sequence will be drawn up based upon current strengths and learning needs and desired outcomes. Throughout, this will be fast-forwarded or rewound to best address and secure specific learning needs, whilst developing skills and competencies at a suitable pace. All prior learning will be constantly revisited to ensure full fluency and instant recall.

Sessions are booked on a weekly or more frequent basis depending on need and proximity to exam. Throughout, recall of prior learning, structured questions and progressions to stretch and challenge all learners is the norm with plentiful support to ensure confidence and attainment. Modern Zoom and Teams thoroughly supports this process by enabling total engagement and accelerated progress through shared learning, modelling, ever-improving and use of interactive resources.

All learning is purpose-designed to be appropriately and enjoyably challenging to best ensure engagement and progress. Your child’s/children’s learning journey with Athena utoring Services

A diagnostic assessment is undertaken combined with initiating positive relationships with your child whilst developing their engagement motivation and positivity.

The outline details of designing and delivering a tailor-made, personalised programme of learning to accelerate your child’s learning, will be shared with you together with clear and progressive learning outcomes.

This will build upon strengths, offer structure in developing using and applying skills and include supported challenge for all including those wishing to achieve mastery in their learning.

Each session will include a review of prior learning to ensure that it is secure in keeping with state of the art research about most empowering teaching and learning practice; activities to consolidate, develop and extend your child’s learning with full regard for addressing misconceptions.

Progress will be shared with parents after each session.

Each child is an individual and has different learning needs, confidence levels and self-efficacy. To address a fundamental misconception in a specific area one or two sessions may well suffice.

Elsewhere, true progress and sustained learning of which pupils become ever - more proud, essentially takes time. To ensure that your child’s learning accelerates, a minimum of a half term programme is recommended as the minimum, with 12 weeks offering more comprehensive and impressive outcomes.

How much homework of inter-sessional work will my child be given? This varies according to your child’s individual circumstances. Equally, fully-resourced, personalised tasks will be given after each session to consolidate and extend learning. Should your child have difficulties here, please just contact me via email.

These frequently run from after Easter until SATS week and offer tutoring inputs once or twice weekly for each key area you require within the SATS spectrum.
